__SEATTLE – April 16, 2024 –__ [Temporal](https://temporal.io "Temporal Technologies"), the creators of Durable Execution, recently onboarded its thousandth paying customer to Temporal Cloud after providing the service for just over a year. This number represents a small percentage of the companies that have adopted Temporal, with thousands more using it as freely available open source software. Organizations use Temporal to improve the reliability of their applications - such as distributed systems and AI applications - and to dramatically accelerate time-to-market for new apps, services and features. They turn to Temporal Cloud to ease management complexity of the service and to efficiently scale their investment in the platform.

__SEATTLE - February 28, 2023 -__ [Temporal](https://temporal.io), the leader in durable execution systems, today announced it raised $75 million in Series B-Prime funding to accelerate investment in the company’s open source community and cloud service. The Temporal Series B-Prime investment comes one year after its initial Series B round; customers and revenues for Temporal Cloud have grown 20X during that time period. Greenoaks joins the existing list of Temporal investors, all of which participated in this round, including Amplify Partners, Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Madrona, and Addition Ventures. Total funding to date is now over $200 million.

Investor enthusiasm in Temporal continued as momentum for durable execution accelerated in 2022, with more than 50,000 new developers joining the user community. Temporal also launched its inaugural Replay conference, hosting a sold-out crowd of backend developers and architects in Seattle. Innovators such as Netflix, Descript, Yum! Brands, Instacart, Datadog, Comcast, Snap, and Hashicorp began or expanded their use of Temporal; many of these companies use the Temporal Cloud service. Index Venture Capital led the round and was joined by Sequoia Capital, Amplify Partners, Madrona Venture Group and Addition Ventures. Temporal raised more than $120 million since its founding in 2019, and Series B funds will be used to expand the team with a heavy focus on developer empowerment, growing the vibrant open source community, and developing new features for Temporal's cloud offering.

Temporal was founded by Maxim Fateev and Samar Abbas, the leading experts in application state management. Fateev and Abbas led the design and development of Simple Workflow at AWS, which was the first technology to solve the state management problem. Over the last decade, they architected business critical systems including Durable Task Framework and Uber Cadence before arriving at the ideal solution: Temporal - an MIT licensed platform for unifying and managing application state.

To further illustrate these challenges, containerization and service based architectures require engineers to manage state, a time consuming and error prone process which shifts the software development focus from business logic to brittle plumbing. Developers have historically relied on database transactions to maintain application consistency, but this is not an option for scalable cloud applications. So they're forced to crudely assemble infrastructure like queues, databases, CRON jobs and more in order to reach some semblance of a cohesive application experience. __October 15, 2020 – SEATTLE --__ Temporal, maker of an open source, stateful, microservices orchestration platform, today announced its first production release and Series A funding of $18.75 million. Sequoia Capital led the round and was joined by Madrona Venture Group, along with existing investors Addition Ventures and Amplify Partners which led the seed round. This brings the total amount raised to $25.5 million. The funds will be used to grow the existing open source community and develop a Temporal cloud offering. Users include Snap, Box, Coinbase and Checkr who have realized increased developer productivity and application reliability after adopting Temporal.

Temporal was founded by Maxim Fateev, CEO, and Samar Abbas, CTO, who created and led the open source Cadence project at Uber. The success of Cadence led to widespread internal and external adoption which prompted Maxim and Samar to start a new company in order to productize the future of microservices orchestration.

Microservices provide teams with scalability and flexibility, but they come at the cost of productivity for developers and reliability for applications. Many business processes today span multiple microservices, and currently there is no orchestration solution that provides end-to-end visibility into the state of processes while ensuring errors are handled reliably and consistently.
